Call for Abstracts

The Program Committee for the annual Extended Environmental Exposures symposium invites submissions for poster presentations. This scientific meeting seeks to build on the growing interaction between biologic and epidemiologic lines of research inquiry. Presentations at the meeting will include the latest scientific findings from the BCERP along with results from other investigations related to the theme of the BCERP. Community participation and advocacy concerns will continue to be highly integrated throughout the entire conference. The poster session is designed to extend opportunities to present the latest scientific findings and community engagement activities. The audience for this meeting is expected to be BCERP members; scientists in the areas of mammary gland biology, breast cancer, pubertal maturation, diet, environmental epidemiology and health communications as well as community, environmental health and breast cancer advocates.

Poster presentations must fall in one of the following categories:

  •  Recent scientific data pertinent to the theme of Extended Environmental Exposures
  •  Transdisciplinary research approaches/findings
  •  Community outreach/engagement and/or advocacy strategies/programs
  •  Interpreting/communicating research findings to the public
  •  Translating/applying research findings to treatment, prevention and/or policy

Non-government organizations (NGOs), students and post-docs conducting BCERP-relevant activities and/or research are encouraged to submit abstracts.

Submission of Abstracts

Abstract Form:
Poster abstracts should be no more than 400 words and must include title, authors, institutions, and funding acknowledgement. The body of the abstract should generally conform to the following format: Background, Hypothesis/Objectives, Methods/Work Performed, Results and Conclusions. Specify the category to which the poster should be assigned. (See the categories listed above.) Identify the poster presenter and indicate whether he/she is a pre- or post-doctoral student, if applicable.

Submission Deadline:
Submit all abstracts via email to by Monday, October 1, 2012. On the subject line, put Abstract followed by last name of corresponding author. Faxed or mailed copies will not be accepted. Abstracts will be reviewed by the Abstract Review Committee, and authors will be notified of the committee's decision by Tuesday, October 9, 2012.

Poster Presentation

Detailed instructions on poster size and mounting directions will be sent with the abstract acceptance notice. Accepted abstracts will be presented in the poster session on Thursday afternoon, November 15, 2012. One of the authors must be present with the poster at this session.
